Enter float–sink results for the product and discard from a plant test. Get the partition (Tromp) curve, cut-point density d50, Ep, organic efficiency and misplaced material.

Tip: copy five columns (RD, product mass, discard mass, product ash, discard ash) from Excel and paste into any RD cell. Mark the final sinks row as S. Ash columns are needed for organic efficiency.

Product yield comes from the ash balance: yield = (discard ash − feed ash) / (discard ash − product ash) × 100. Product and discard float–sink results are weighted by yield to reconstitute the feed, and the partition number for each fraction is the share reporting to product, plotted at the fraction's mean density.
The curve is the arctangent (Erasmus) partition function, P = (T₂ − arctan(k(ρ − c))) / (T₂ − T₁), fitted by best correlation. d50 is the density at 50% partition; Ep = (ρ₂₅ − ρ₇₅) / 2; imperfection I = Ep / (d50 − 1).
Results depend on representative sampling of product and discard and on accurate float–sink work. Check that the reconstituted feed ash agrees with the measured feed ash. Ep benchmarks depend on particle size and equipment; use results for screening and comparison, and confirm with a qualified engineer.
